You can’t do it all, but do the most important

You can’t do it all.  It would be exhausting to try.  BUT you can work towards your TOP priorities, and I don’t mean just work.

It surprizes me (and yet doesn’t)  that so many of us don’t take the time to reflect on what is MOST important to us and from “different lenses”.

We are more than a job, we can be a parent or a friend or a daughter, Uncle, etc.

We build our energy by feeding our “whole” self, not just one part of us at the expense of other parts.

Consider when you are older (& wiser), that you will want to look back on your life from these many lenses with happiness & contentment.

BUT you can’t do it all

And if you try, something is going to give, and I will bet it will be your happiness or sanity.

So, what do you do?????

I learnt early in business that trying to complete everything on the “to do” list did not win any points if your top priorities were not done with excellence.   I adjusted over time.

I have also observed that people don’t spend enough time (really) reflecting on their priorities & goals

Consider…….

  • Do you think about your top priorities in the most important facets of your life?

  • Or do you fall into the trap of creating a long unattainable list that exhausts you?

 Here is my suggestion:

Think about your top 3 priorities for work, family, friends and most importantly you.

That is only 12 things to be focused on…… and if done well, (I am going to venture a guess) it will make you feel like you’ve accomplished a great deal.

Once you complete a priority, then add another one to your list of 3.

So don’t do it all – but do the most important.

PS I am not a life coach – I am a career coach – but sometimes I venture outside the lines.
