2024 Canadian job market - know what you offer!
2024 Canadian Job Market –-Headline: “Companies are more deliberative in hiring”
I have been scanning for info on the job market in Canada. Big caveat – I am not a job research expert – just a consumer of info – and there’s a lot of opinions out there.
Here is one source & some stats I found interesting.
See link at end of blog to find more data and make your own conclusions.
According to a ‘Robert Half’ survey on the 2024 Canadian market outlook,
“92% of managers who want to hire, say they face challenges finding and attracting skilled talent.”
Further they mention, “Most companies (63%) are planning to expand payrolls”.
They also state “40% of workers across professional fields who say their department is understaffed.”
Of course, the job market will vary by the type of industry and work type. Some jobs and industries are more on the incline than others.
You need to research your specific field to get a better idea.
Clear take-a-ways for me.
1) You need to be competitive and stand out.
2) You must know and show your unique and desirable skills.
3) You must sharpen your personal brand.
Potential actions:
Consider if you think you have a clear, concise resume and linkedin profile that tells a compelling story.
I see so many LinkedIn profiles that are just basic. If you are in the job market, you have to sharpen these up.
The survey also mentioned some of employers’ biggest frustrations.
Here is one I found interesting:
48% said “finding candidates who will thrive in the company culture”.
It is critical that you ask YOUR questions in an interview. A job is a relationship that needs to work for you and the company.
Don’t be afraid to ask your questions. And make sure to think of how you ask those questions to stand out and be memorable.
Finally, a reminder from something I saw on Global News. There is a large HIDDEN job market out there - where those jobs are never posted on-line.
So…… keep your network authentically engaged as you never know when things will come up.
Good luck to those looking for job and feel free to reach out for a free consult if you would like to elevate your career positioning.
