Find time to embrace your strengths!

Darn It All

Why don’t we women EMBRACE OUR STRENGTHS and FIND TIME to move from Self-Doubt to Self-Discovery?  (sorry guys this one has a bit of a female skew - but still worth consideration)

I have seen too many women who possess a remarkable array of strengths and skills struggle to recognize and give themselves credit for their own unique talents.

I can guess the root of this “RESISTANCE” has something to do with social conditioning, ever-present imposter syndrome, not finding time for themselves and a belief they have to do it on their own to show strength.

So, how can you find “unique and awesome you”?

Break the Stereotypes

When you really think about it, society and our upbringing has perpetuated gender stereotypes that can tend to undermine women's self-confidence. “MASCULINE TRAITS”… “strength/muscle”, “play to win” or “FEMALE TRAITS” ……“soft”, “pink” and “emotion”.   Thankfully, things are changing as we become more societally aware.   Be Aware.

Fight Imposter Syndrome

While both men and women struggle with impostor syndrome, I think we females feel it more intensely and more often.   And I think it is part of the reason why we don’t quickly articulate our strengths ----   BUT ask about our weaknesses and we will quickly answer.

To quote a female SR VP from a Women’s leadership course 12 years ago….”you must be prepared to put yourself in uncomfortable situations and learn as you go ….you will figure it out. “

Take time for Self-Reflection

In our busy lives, it's easy for women to get caught up in caring for others and fulfilling various responsibilities. However, not spending or finding the time to reflect on ourselves and our strengths and accomplishments can lead to a lack of self-recognition.

Empower Each Other

Seek support and encouragement from other trusted allies.  Too often we feel we need to handle situations or challenges on our own to prove our capabilities. You are not meant to solve challenging problems on your own.   Start with a draft and then seek feedback.

Conclusion

Everyone possesses unique strengths and skills that deserve recognition and celebration.
