One Minute Viewpoint: Where do I want my career to go now? 50% of people say they are looking for new jobs in first 6 months of 2023.
Scott Peterson of CBC news recently quoted from a Robert Half Survey that 50% of people will be looking for a new job in the first 6 months of 2023.
He further mentions that the most likely groups looking to change jobs are Gen Z, millennials and newer employees who have been with a company 2-4 years.
Drivers of desire for a change…… no shock - higher pay, but also stated, are benefits, flexible work, remote work and work life balance. Truly not surprising.
What may also be surprising is the projected 50% of people looking for a job change is over double the year ago (June 2021) number of 21%. Net - Net lots of people are considering a job change.
Here is my perspective:
Switching jobs should be a thoughtful process as you are (roughly) going to spend the next 1-2 years of your life in this new job.
5 things to consider in finding the next job that is a right fit for you.
Spend time thinking about:
1) the type of work that interests you
2) your values and the environment you thrive amongst
3) what unique skills you offer
4) a vision for where you would like to be in your career 3-5 years out. Are you a manager, are you in large company, are you independently working…..?
5) the growth and development you need to get you to that vision.
Of course, there are other things to consider like money, bonus, location, benefits etc.
BUT START with this look at yourself (your interest, values, skills, vision and development needs), THEN start looking for jobs that are a close match.
Job Hunt & Match = interests + values + skills + vision + growth & development needs
