The power of questions & gaining perspective
One minute viewpoint:
The power of questions and gaining perspective.
Most career problems and challenges can be solved with thoughtful questions and obtaining perspective where you are (truly) willing to change your course based on what you hear. But are we doing it?
Having recently started my new career journey coaching young professionals I am starting to see some themes emerge.
One of the themes is the natural tendency to only go so deep when engaging in self-reflection.
Not sure if this is because we are humble and don’t like to focus on ourselves. Or perhaps we are too busy and need to get to the next thing on the list.
But to truly grow or find your direction or achieve great things you must first start by asking yourself questions and going beyond the obvious surface.
Peel that onion – great responses or answers come from great and detailed questions. And don’t’ stop there. Once done with your (compassionate) interrogation 😊 and reflection, turn next to gather perspective from others.
So many people are afraid to ask questions of others for fear of looking “dumb” or “not knowledgeable”.
You must bravely ask questions and then really listen to the answer with an open mind to shift your thinking if the responses are not what you expected. Sounds simple right – but so frequently that onion is left unpeeled.
